Residents Hear Candidates' Plans for Lakewood Schools

More than 60 attend the forum at Garfield Middle School on Wednesday night.

More than 60 people attended Wednesday's at featuring the six candidates for three seats on Lakewood School Board.

The candidates covered a range of issues — including Phase III of the long-range master facilities plan, SB 5 and which other candidates they'd like to serve with.

However, with a heavy  in the years ahead, the candidates moved past talking points and go-to rhetoric and went straight to the issues.

Hosted by the Lakewood Council of PTAs, the Meet the Candidates forum allowed residents to inquire about the future management of the school system. Questions for the candidates were submitted ahead of time.

The event — which moderate Bret Callentine said was "not designed to be a debate" — also gave voters an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the candidates: incumbent  and challengers , , ,  and .

There are three seats on the school board up for election.

Two other forums are planned for the school board candidates to talk about their ideas.

The first is set for Oct. 18 in the ; the second is set for Oct. 21 at , sponsored by the .
