Lakewood High Star Nick Jackosky Running Over the Competition

The senior track and cross country runner is one of the best in the midwest.

If Lakewood High senior Nick Jackosky hosted a dinner party for his competitors, he'd probably serve them dust.

In a pair of recent three-mile cross country runs, Jackosky finished first and second, respectively. The gold finish came last week at Strongsville’s Fleet Feet run as he coasted to victory with a time of 16:23.

Over the weekend, he competed against 150 runners from several states at the McQuaid Invitational in Rodchester, N.Y. and took silver with a time of 15:40, LHS boys head cross country coach Mike Schreiner said.

“Nick is an incredibly hard worker, and he’s really a motivated kid,” Schreiner said. “He’s very determined to be the best he can be at anything, including academics. He’s a wonderful teammate and runner who’s been able to take the talent he has and make the most of it.”

In the weeks ahead, Jackosky and his team will compete at the Legends Invitational in Trumbull County, the Northeast Ohio River division championship in Mayfield, then move onto the district championship at Lorain County Community College.

From there, the best runners will qualify for the regional tournament held in Tiffin, Ohio, followed by the state championship in Columbus.
