Pawsitive Local Shopping: Pet's General

Learn about Lakewood's oldest locally owned pet store, Pet's General.

For nearly 30 years Pet's General has been serving Lakewood's pet loving community. Their story is not that of a business but of a family and a love of animals. Greg Schnupp took over Pet's General in 2001. He has since worked to create a business that helps cultivate everything it touches, his customers and their pets, his family and his community.

Pet's General carries products designed to keep animals healthy in a natural way. They have food, treats and toys for dogs, cats and various other mammals, birds and reptiles. Greg's store also carries a large assortment of fish and what you need to take care of them. Greg's son John can answer any questions you may have to keep your aquarium prospering. Pet's General also, carries a number of non-swimming animals ranging from kittens and hamsters to more exotic animals like parakeets, lizards and chinchillas. Less known are their pet sitting options covering birds, reptiles and small mammals. Pet's General will also maintain your aquarium.

Why did Greg begin running Pet's General in Lakewood? The answer is family. He needed a way so that he could work with the animals that he loves along with the family that he loves. Since beginning at Pet's General both his son John and daughter Amanda have begun working with him. John has had such a large role, that he has become a part owner of the pet store. When you stop by you'll probably meet Logan. Greg describes him as awesome and like a son to him. Logan has even worked here at Pawsitive Influence in the past. When coming to Pet's General has always welcomed me like was part of their family. That's the charm of Pet's General they treat the whole community like their family.

Pet's General tries to help out the pet community as best they can. They donate a year's worth of food for the Spooky Pooch Parade fund raiser. Part of the pet store's newest expansion is in conjunction with the Lakewood Animal Shelter. Pet's General is beginning to carry kittens rescued by Lakewood's shelter. During our interview Pet's General even took in and took care of a lost dachshund until they found her owner.

Pet's General is finishing up it's newest expansion and it is an expansion on Greg's favorite parts of his job. He needs more room for the community and to help find homeless kittens homes. He needs more room for fish, he likes fish. And of course, he needs to plan for the future of his family. This means that he must make a better working business for his family to work in. This isn't a place where Greg works, it's a place where he brings his favorite things together. Come by and check out Pet's General's expansion and you'll be happy you did.

Did you know that birds lay eggs on a semi-regular basis just like chickens do, even if they aren't fertilized?
