Meet the Fosters

Pawsitively Lakewood introduces you to one of our homeless pups in need.

Welcome to our first edition of Meet the Fosters.

This series in the Pawsitively Lakewood will help you get to know some of the pups in Lakewood that need a forever home.  Many of these dogs are cared for directly by All Dogs Heaven animal shelter or by their fostering volunteers in our city.  Their mission is to rescue, medically treat, provide housing and place dogs in loving, permanent homes.

One of their exceptional dogs of the moment is a 4 year old poodle named Skyler.  He loves all people especially children!  Sadly, Skyler has had a hard life up until now.

Skyler was not given proper vet care or food.  He also, had never been groomed.  His fur was heavily matted with feces, urine and “debris”.  Skyler had to be shaved, which revealed open wounds caused by the pulling of the matted hair.  A teeth cleaning was able to reveal white teeth under a black, rotten crust.

Neutering turned out to be more difficult than normal.  A more invasive surgery was involved because only one of his testicles had dropped.  He had a number of complications to the operation.  Skyler reacted adversely the anesthetic.  Skyler tore his stitches open twice after being released.

He has also been plagued by increasingly worse internal infections.  He received multiple drainage tubes and stitches that extend the length of his abdomen.  Skyler is being kept this week at the vet until he is out of the woods.

Skyler has already spent $2,000 for veterinary treatments.  He is still getting 24-hour care so the bill is still expanding.

Melissa, owner of All Dogs Heaven says, “Some people ask why we put so much into 'just a dog' but to us he isn’t just a dog.  Skyler is a very young guy who deserves a wonderful full life.  Skyler deserves the best since he was never given that previously.”

As a nonprofit organization All Dogs Heaven needs help for Skyler.  Before he can find a permanent home he must fight his way to health at his hospital.  The costs are obviously above what adoption fees alone would cover.

Any donations towards paying off the debt at the vet would be greatly appreciated.  Of course donation of items is always welcome as well.  You can donate at http://www.alldogsheaven.org/Donations.aspx.
