Lakewood Hospital Employee Appears on Gordon Ramsay's Master Chef

Lakewood Hospital Emergency Department PRN Paramedic & Bedford Heights Firefighter, Mark Famiano appears on FOX's Master Chef, a competitive cooking reality show tonight at 8 p.m.

Lakewood Hospital Emergency Department PRN Paramedic & Bedford Heights Firefighter, Mark Famiano is not only saving lives locally, but is also serving up meals to Gordon Ramsay as a contestant on Master Chef, a competitive cooking reality show on Fox Television Network

MasterChef is co-hosted and co-produced by Gordon Ramsay who stars with fellow judges, restaurateur and vineyard owner Joe Bastianich and Chef Graham Elliot. Season 4 is set to premiere on May 22, 2013, at its new Wednesday, 8 p.m. timeslot.

A paramedic for over 22 years, the Strongsville resident was chosen from 36,000 applicants during a casting call at Cleveland State University. Cleveland has a significant culinary presence on the show with five other contestants picked from the area. The group plans on gathering for a the Season 4 premiere event of Master Chef tonight - Wednesday, May 22 - at 7:30 p.m., Liquid, 1212 West 6th St, Cleveland, Ohio 44113

Of all the aspiring chefs who audition nationwide, one hundred are chosen to cook their signature dish for the three judges. Each judge takes a taste of the dish and gives his opinion before voting a "yes" or a "no". At least two "yes" votes are required to earn a MasterChef apron, allowing the competitor to advance. While Mr. Famiano didn’t get an apron, it was an experience he won’t forget. 

“It was an awesome,” said Famiano. “We taped in Hollywood, staying at the same hotel as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune contestants. The Master Chef contestants all had very unique personalities; I’m excited to see who wins.”

Stuffed Eggplant Recipe by Mark Famiano for Master Chef appearance:

Ingredients

-2 eggplants

-1/2 cup orzo

-1 can 14.5 oz. chicken stock

-1/2 half cup cabernet wine

-2 diced shallots

-1 cup grated Romano cheese

-1-1 1/2 half lb. ground turkey

-olive oil

Spices:  Sea salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, garlic powder

-Slice eggplants in half long ways and carve out innards, dice and reserve off to side.

- In a medium frying pan, lightly brown the orzo in 3 tbsp. olive oil and put off to side.

- Brown the ground turkey.

- In a large frying pan, add 1/2 cup olive oil, add diced eggplants and sauté for 5 min.

- Add turkey, orzo, chicken stock, and shallots. Reduce for 10 mins.

- Add wine, tomatoes paste, and Romano cheese. Reduce until mixture is a nice thick consistency. Season and spice to taste.

- Stuff mixture into eggplant shells and bake in a covered pan for 45 mins. at 350 degrees.

-Let rest for 10 mins. and serve with your favorite cheese on top.
