McGinty’s Reopening in Church Bar Location

Church Bar closes last month, and Pat McGinty and company took the keys back, and are set to open on Friday.

The bar at Madison Avenue and Bunts Road that was McGinty’s, then the Church Bar, will be McGinty’s once again.

It’s opening on Friday.

Originally operated by Pat McGinty — who also owns the successful Plank Road Tavern on Detroit Avenue — the business changed hands in 2005. Several years later, the bar became the Church Bar.

Brion Stenger, one of the four owners of McGinty’s, said that the owners of the Church Bar offered to sell it back to McGinty and his partners.

They took the keys on Jan. 1, just weeks after the Church Bar closed.

Since then, the interior has undergone a facelift, including new floors, lights and paints and décor.

“It’s going to be an Irish pub theme,” said Stenger.

That’s good news for the East End of Madison Avenue, which saw Sullivan’s Irish Pub close its doors last year.

McGinty’s will feature $3 Guinness beer — all the time — and some Irish music.

There’s no kitchen, but there are plans in the works to serve food.
