Storm Leaves Thousands in Lakewood Without Power

A power sub-station in Brooklyn floods, leaving thousands in the dark.

Thousands of Lakewood homes are without power after storms hammered Northeast Ohio over the past 12 hours.

According to FirstEnergy, between 5,000 and 10,000 homes in Lakewood still don't have power, as of 10:30 a.m.

That number was higher earlier this morning.

Traffic signals around the city are out. Motorists are encouraged to treat each signal as a four-way stop.

After rain pounded the area late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, FirstEnergy's sub-station in Brooklyn flooded.

Homes aren't the only buildings affected. Lakewood City Hall also lost power, but the building has a back-up generator. With temperatures swelling into the upper-80s, the building is without air conditioning. 

Yesterday, more than lost power because of the extreme heat, and strain on the power grid.

The heat streak is likely to continue this week, with highs reaching the low 90s.
