State Board OKs $140,000 Upgrade for Lakewood Apartments

Partnership with the Ohio Department of Mental Health Nets upgrades to eight units at Nelson Court apartments.

One apartment complex on the city’s east side is getting a $140,000 upgrade.

The Nelson Court apartments — located between W. 117th Street and Coutant Avenue — are slated for exterior and interior renovations, according to a news release from the Ohio Department of Mental Health.

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency board — which approved $786,658 statewide for its new Capital Investment Pilot Program — noted that the idea behind the grant is to support aging ODMH-funded properties.

The total awarded to the Nelson Court apartments renovation is $140,721.

One Lakewood building inspector said the complex could use some fixing up. 

According to the news release, the money will be used for exterior upgrades — for lighting; thermal, energy efficient windows; and a new porch.

Interior work will include upgrades to kitchens and bathrooms.
