Showdown at City Hall Over Grace Avenue Concerns

Residents of Grace Avenue showed up in force at Monday's city council meeting to express dissatisfaction with a few issues at the new Discount Drug Mart.

Truck traffic from the nearby Discount Drug Mart seems to be a lingering issue for a several residents on Grace Avenue.

More than two-dozen of them showed up to the Lakewood City Council meeting on Monday to share their concerns.

According to Cleveland.com, the discussion — prompted by council president Brian Powers — lasted two hours.

Since the store opened earlier this year, residents have shared concerns about the increased traffic on the residential street, intrusive lighting and “commercial encroachment” onto the residential portion of the street.

One resident even presented a slideshow, featuring 15 trucks photographed during a four-day period, according to Cleveland.com. Truckers are encouraged to take Detroit Avenue, rather than the side streets.

According to city officials, Discount Drug Mart plans to conduct a traffic study at the location and share the findings with the planning commission later this year.
