Police Chief Timothy Malley echoed Summers’ sentiments, noting that the number of supervisors promoted “is a significant event for the Lakewood Police Department."

He said although there were seven promotions, there were not seven retirements.

“When a captain retires it opens up his rank — the lieutenant and the sergeant, so you have three promotions to fill one position,” he said. “We have a very qualified group of supervisors being promoted and I think they will position us to have some stability in the future.”

Malley said he cannot single out one single out any of the officers, because all of them are so qualified.

“Each and every officer has excelled in their commitment to the citizens of Lakewood and the Lakewood Police Department and I look forward to working with each of them in their new assignments,” he said.
