About half of the large blue US Postal Service boxes will be
removed this week from the Lakewood zip code.
The reason? Turns out, not as many people use the service as in the past.
LoveLakewood.com first reported that the USPS studied the collection sites over a two-week period and found that 16 blue bins received fewer than 25 letters per day.
From a dollars-and-cents standpoint, that’s just not enough to justify keep them, a USPS spokesman told LoveLakewood.
The two busiest boxes in the city are located at Lakewood City Hall and at the INA Building, for a combined 350 pieces of mail per day.
A note is posted to each of the boxes that are to be taken out. Those with questions or concerns are encouraged to call 216-226-1415.
The notice is supposed to be posted for 30 days before the box can be removed, but its not clear when they were fixed to the boxes.
