McDonald's Proposal Takes Another Step Forward

City's planning commission to hear a plan that would combine two parcels of land at the Detroit Theatre site to make way for the Golden Arches.

The city’s planning commission will take its turn hearing proposal to plant the Golden Arches at the site most recently occupied by the Detroit Theatre. 

Representatives from McDonald’s are expected to ask that two parcels of land at the site be combined.

They're also seeking a conditional use permit to allow an accessory parking lot in a residential district.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at .

McDonald’s has not yet purchased the property, which is listed for sale at $695,000.

, the city’s Architectural Board of review approved the preliminary plans that show entry and exits on both Detroit and Woodward avenues.

A few weeeks later, nearly 50 residents attended a  to express their concerns about the traffic at the .

More specifically, they wanted to know how traffic would impact the neighborhood near Woodward and Detroit avenues where the has stood since 1923.

A traffic study was recently conducted — with McDonald's picking up the tab — to examine the traffic count on Detroit and Woodward avenues.

The city is studying the results.

But neighbors are hoping for a more thorough examination. They began circulating a petition asking the city to require a comprehensive traffic study that would further examine the issue.
