It was midnight before the board of elections posted the results of all 41 precincts.

Nowlin was celebrating his victory with friends, family and supporters at .

"I am glad to have the opportunity to continue the work that I started when I was appointed in January," he said. "There are a lot of challenges ahead, but I am prepared to meet those challenges with my colleagues and with city hall."

Nowlin said that the greatest challenge he will face in his first full term is the city's impending budget shortfall. The city's aging housing stock is also a priority, he said.

"I think the campaigns that (Davis and Zappala) ran were very positive," he said. "They had a lot of great ideas. They were able to engage the citizens to make sure that citizens were heard. I intend to make sure their concerns are listened to."

Anderson turned in early without knowing the final election results.

"I am pretty happy about it," he said. "I am happy that Pat Metzger joined the race, I think we brought a lot of issues to Ward 1."

Those issues, Anderson said, include housing, development and balancing the city's budget while retaining city services.

"We need to figure out what's going on with what's going on with our streets that have abandoned and dilapidated houses," he said. "These are challenging times, but we are smart people, we're going to make good decisions and we're going to move forward."

The other council races for Wards 2, 3 and 4 were all unopposed, as was the mayor's position.
