Incumbent Antonio and Political Newcomer Square Off For 13th District Seat

Next Tuesday's election, in the race for the 13th Ohio House District, State Rep. Nickie Antonio will have company.

In the race for the 13th Ohio House District, State Rep. will have company in November's election.

Political newcomer Matthew Deibel of Lakewood is the lone Republican candidate running against Antonio.

They will both be on the March 6 ballot, representing their parties.

And, they will square off at the ballot box in November.

During her first term, Antonio has sponsored or co-sponsored about a dozen bills.

Among them is a in Ohio; another one aimed at in the state; and another measure that would in a non-classified sport.

“I think it’s a lot for someone in their first year,” Antonio told Lakewood Patch recently, adding that she’s still pushing the bills through the House. “You don’t introduce them and then walk away.”

A couple of her goals for her next term, if re-elected, include passing a harm reduction bill for a hypodermic needle exchange and an initiative to ban fracking — the process of hydraulic fracturing during natural gas mining. 

“We still have some work to do,” Antonio said.

Her challenger, political newcomer Matthew Deibel is running as the lone GOP candidate.

He was unavailable for comment.
