Girls Rugby Team Takes Fight From the Field to the Statehouse

A new law went into effect that allows sports teams and marching bands to be exempt from physical education requirements in schools. Club teams were left out in the cold.

A new law went into effect that allows sports teams and marching bands to be exempt from physical education requirements in schools.

But club teams — including the ’s girls rugby team — were left out.

So, they contacted their local State Rep. Nickie Antonio, who introduced House Bill 397 that will include club teams if they meet the criteria.

"I am so proud of the Lakewood girl's rugby team for the thorough job they have done to make their case to the legislature," Antonio said in a statement.
