City to Review Dangerous Crosswalks

Mayor Michael Summers said the city will explore its options to make the crosswalk at Detroit and Manor Park avenues a little safer.

The crosswalk at Manor Park and Detroit Avenue may soon get a little safer.

It turns out, that our recent story about motorists who don’t stop for pedestrians at that busy intersection has gotten lots of attention during the past couple days.

The TV stations got involved including WKYC and Lakewood Patch news partner NewsNet5.

And on Thursday, it even seemed as if more motorists were paying attention to pedestrians.

Word of the story also reached the office of Mayor Mike Summers who said the city is looking into some of its options — including (as a more drastic measure) removing the crosswalk altogether.

Last year, the city decided to take down the traffic signals when ODOT determined that they were no longer warranted at that intersection and the city would have to pay for them to keep them.
