Big Plans Eyed in Birdtown

City officials hosted a meeting to address concerns and talk about the future of neighborhood, at the Madison Avenue branch of the Lakewood Public Library on Tuesday.

Clarification: LakewoodAlive, the city's economic development organization, was co-host of the event with the city of Lakewood.

About two-dozen residents showed up at the Madison branch of the Lakewood Public Library to share some concerns and talk about the future of the Birdtown neighborhood.

For starters, there are grants and low-interest loans available for housing initiatives.  There are improvements slated at Madison Park.

And there are plans for a streetscape project in Birdtown, as well as to repave the entire stretch of Madison Avenue next year.

Also, city officials are considering a proposal that could allow for mixed-use zoning in the neighborhood.
