$1.3 Million Water Main Replacement Set for Four Lakewood Streets

Projects expected to begin this May.

Four water main lines are getting replaced in Lakewood this summer.

In a $1.3 million project, four 6-inch pipes on Athens, Belle, Clarence and Westwood avenues, will be replaced with more than a mile (total) of 8-inch iron pipes.

According to the city's work summary, the work is set to begin 90 days after the city’s notice to proceed.

Corrigan said that if there had been a harsher winter, there could have been a couple water main breaks.

But, for the most part, the city was spared.

“This winter was mild,” Corrgian said. “It wasn’t so bad, but usually if we get any cold weather, we’re out on all these streets.”

The streets getting new mains are:

  • Athens Avenue, from Warren Road to Belle Avenue
  • Belle Avenue, from Madison Avenue to Franklin Boulevard
  • Clarence Avenue, from Madison Avenue to Franklin Boulevard
  • Westwood Avenue, from Hilliard Road to Detroit Avenue
