Sobriety Checkpoint Planned Friday in Lakewood

Police will work to deter and intercept drunken drivers.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that it will host a sobriety checkpoint on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood Friday night.

The checkpoint, designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers in conjunction with Lakewood Police, will take place at the intersection of Northland and Detroit avenues from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

It will be paired with aggressive patrols in the immediate vicinity.

"If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink, the OSHP wrote in its press release. "Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired."
