Snapshot: Laying the Foundation for Lakewood's 9/11 Memorial

Workers started construction today on the large pentagonal concrete pad that will serve as the base for the Lakewood Fire Department's 9/11 memorial.

Two steel beams that were once part of the World Trade Center in New York, will now rest in the large pentagonal concrete pad that was poured by construction workers earlier this afternoon.

 – which is being built in front of Fire Station No. 1 on Madison Avenue – will honor those fire fighters who died during the September 11 attacks in 2001.

Construction of the memorial will be completed just in time for the tenth anniversary of the attacks.
