Rash of Car Break-Ins Reported in Lakewood

Between June 11 and June 13, about 20 cars were broken into. The items stolen range from tennis shoes to a gun.

First the East End was hit. About a dozen cars were broken into June 11, with items stolen ranging from tennis shoes to a gun.

Then, a couple days later several more car-breaki-ns were reported. This time, on the west side of the city. 

In total, about 20 cars — most of them unlocked — were broken into between June 11 and June 13.

Lakewood Police, who are investigating, usually warn residents to lock their cars at night.

East

  • Car break-in: A resident in the 1400 block of Maile Avenue told police that the vehicle at the home was broken into, and “multiple items” were stolen, in the early morning of June 11.
  • Tennis shoes stolen: A resident in the 1400 block of Wyandotte Avenue told police that tennis shoes were stolen from an unlocked car at the home in the early morning of June 11.
  • Car break-in: 1600 block of Clarence Avenue. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • GPS stolen: A GPS unit was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 1400 block of Elbur Avenue June 11.
  • Two cars: Two unlocked cars were entered in the 2200 block of Waterbury Avenue, however nothing was reported stolen.
  • Grand theft: A car was reported stolen from the 1500 block of Parkwood Road at around 9 a.m. June 11.
  • Another GPS stolen: A GPS unit was reported stolen from the 1300 block of Mathews Avenue on June 11.
  • Another on Parkwood: A GPS unit was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a home in the 1570 block of Parkwood Road on June 11.
  • Gun stolen: A gun was reported stolen from a parked vehicle in the 1600 block of Wyandotte Avenue on June 11.
  • Necklace and GPS stolen: A resident in the 1650 block of Parkwood Road told police that a necklace and GPS were stolen from her unlocked vehicle on June 11.
  • Apartment complex hit: A car parked at an apartment complex in the 11900 block of Edgewater Drive was reported broken into on June 11.

West

  • GPS stolen: A GPS unit was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 17700 block of Franklin Avenue in the morning of June 13.
  • Purse stolen: A purse was reported stolen just a couple houses away from another car break-in, in the 17700 block of Franklin Avenue on June 13.
  • Nothing stolen: A car was broken into in the 17600 block of Franklin Avenue on June 13, however nothing was reported stolen.
  • iPod and GPS stolen: A couple items, including an iPod and a GPS unit were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 17500 block of Daleview Drive on June 13.
  • Two cars broken into: Two cars were broken into in the 1400 block of Wagar Avenue on June 13.
  • Wallet stolen: A vehicle in the 1400 block of Rockway Avenue was reported broken into on June 13, and he later reported that his wallet had been stolen.
  • Computer stolen: A laptop computer was reported stolen from an unlocked car in the 17300 block of Fries Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. June 13.
