Police May Charge Man for Playing 'Chicken' With Freight Train
The 54-year-old man who was struck by a Norfolk Southern freight train was allegedly waiting for the locomotive between the rails of the track and jumped away a moment too late.
A 54-year-old Lakewood man who was this past Saturday night was allegedly playing “chicken” with the locomotive as it sped toward him.
Lakewood police, who are investigating the incident, say that the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
It was originally reported that alcohol did not seem to play a factor.

However, the police are currently in talks with the prosecutor’s office in order to cite him with public intoxication and a traffic violation, Capt. Ed Hassing said.
The traffic ticket stems from the fact that the train hit its brakes after striking the man, which subsequently disrupted the flow of traffic on several roads east and west of Belle Avenue.

The man remains at Fairview Hospital where he continues to undergo tests and treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
