Police Field Dozens of Calls Related to Storm

Officers busy with storm’s aftermath

During the past week, Lakewood police fielded dozens of calls in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The calls ranged from instances of power outages to residents going into businesses to keep warm, according to reports. Officers also were often posted at intersections without power to direct traffic and followed up on reports of children playing on downed trees.

Criminal trespassing

A man was charged with criminal trespassing after police received a report of a man “going through cars” in a parking lot in the 18900 block of Detroit Avenue at around 12:15 a.m. Oct. 31. 

Grand theft

A truck was reported stolen from the 1600 block of Robinwood Avenue at around 4 a.m. Oct. 31. The vehicle was found later in Cleveland and returned, however other nearby residents reported that the windows of the vehicles had been smashed out.

Brick through window

A man told police that an ex-girlfriend threw a brick through his car window in the 1300 block of Lakewood Avenue at around 10 a.m. Oct. 31.

Stolen steaks

A woman stole steaks from Sapell’s Bi-Rite on W. 117th Street at around 10:45 a.m. Oct. 31. Police were unable to catch up with the thief.
