Police Blotter: String of Bicycle Thefts, Indecent Exposure and Breaking and Entering

The following arrest information was supplied by the Lakewood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

String of bike thefts

A string of bicycle thefts have tied up police officers during the past week. At least a dozen bikes were reported stolen since June 3. One woman — a resident of the 2200 block of Richland Avenue — told police that two bikes were stolen from her garage.

At around 7 p.m. June 3, a resident in the 1300 block of Edwards Avenue told police that a group of a half-dozen children between the ages of 10 and 14 were riding their bicycles up and down driveways talking about how they were going to steal bikes. Less than 20 minutes later, a bike was reported stolen from a home in the 14900 block of Delaware. Ten minutes later, there was another bike theft reported in the 14500 block of Bayes Avenue.

According to reports, a “drop” bike is left where the stolen one was taken.

Police are investigating.

Public intoxication

Police received a call about two men walking — who appeared to the caller to be intoxicated — in the 17000 block of Detroit Avenue at around 9 a.m. June 3. When police caught up with the men at the intersection of Spring Garden and Detroit avenues, they had open containers of alcohol. They were cited for public intoxication and drug abuse.

Lured by online ad 

A woman told police June 4 that she went to a home in the 1200 block of Summit Avenue to look at a vehicle posted online for sale. When she arrived at the home, the vehicle’s owner told her that he would accept sex for payments. Police are investigating.

Breaking and entering

A resident in the 17000 block of Franklin Avenue told police June 4 that her home had been broken into the night before and stole her purse. She told police that someone claiming to be a police detective was asking about her bank information. Police are investigating.

Indecent exposure

A man and a woman were each cited for indecent exposure at 1 a.m. June 5 after police received a report of loud noises coming from a car in the 1400 block of Elbur Avenue.
