Man Caught Stealing the Tip Jar from Madison Avenue Restaurant

The following arrest information was supplied by the Lakewood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Theft

A man was charged with theft after he was caught stealing the tip jar at the Greek Village restaurant at around 9 p.m. Oct. 17. Employees chased the man out of the store and caught up with him at the adjacent gas station — that’s also where officers caught up to him.

Suitcases, a wallet and a bicycle were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Abbieshire Avenue on Oct. 17.

Campaign signs “tampered with”

A woman told police that there were four Obama campaign signs that had been “tampered with” in the 1400 block of Northland Avenue on Oct. 15.

Bicyclist struck by vehicle

A man was struck by a car while riding his bicycle near the intersection of Clifton Boulevard and W. 117th Street at around noon Oct. 15. The man’s injuries were not reported.

Theft

Three men were caught stealing “freshly planted bushes” from a property in the 12200 block of Detroit Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. Oct. 15. The men replanted the bush and were “strongly advised.”

Suspicious man

Police received a call about a man who was stopping to talk to children in the 11900 block of Detroit Avenue at around 8:15 a.m. Oct. 16. Turns out the man, who is a refugee, was new to the country and taking a stroll through the area.

Bike stolen

A bicycle was reported stolen from the bike rack behind the Madison Avenue branch of the Lakewood Public Library at around 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

Drug abuse

Following a traffic stop near Madison Avenue and W. 117th Street, a woman was cited for drug abuse at around 11:40 p.m. Oct. 16.
