Man Struck by a Train Near Belle Avenue, Survives

Roads closed following incident at around 10:30 p.m.

A 54-year-old Lakewood man is in the hospital after he was struck by a train near Belle Avenue on Saturday night.

The man was hit by the train as he was walking along the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks at 10:22 p.m.

Sgt. Frank Eschweiler, of the , said that the man was taken to Fairview Hospital with “non-life-threatening” injuries.

Neighbors reported the incident.

Eschweiler said it’s not known how fast the train was traveling, but noted that it was not going faster than the 35 mph limit.

The train came to a stop, and police closed off the street during an investigation.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Eschweiler said the man is lucky to have survived, and noted this isn’t the first time someone has been hit by a train in Lakewood.

“We’ve had things like this happen in the past, but it’s been a long time,” he said.
