Man Injured After Meth Lab Catches Fire on Quail Street

Two arrested, and another man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center with unreported injuries.

A 26-year-old man allegedly jumped from the window of a Quail Street home Wednesday after a “small pot” meth lab caught fire at his home.

The man is recovering at MetroHealth hospital, but two others were arrested and face a number of charges, according to our news partners at NewsNet5.

Officers responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday reporting that a man was on fire and had jumped out of a window at 2026 Quail Street — the home is a double.

When the firefighters arrived “they realized it was a meth fire,” said Mayor Michael Summers.

The Lakewood Police Narcotics Unit was called in to confiscate items — suspected in the manufacture of Methamphetamine.

Two other adults inside the home were arrested and booked into the Lakewood jail, according to NewsNet5.

Amanda Bentkalowycz, 24, and Jeffery Mehnert, 33, were charged with aggravated arson, drug abuse, drug trafficking and illegal manufacturing of drugs.

They are expected to be arraigned Thursday morning.

“Basically, there were cooking meth in a small pot, and it somehow burned and caught fire,” said Summers.

“It’s a scary thing. It’s not our experience to have a meth lab, even though this isn’t a regular meth lab. We’re not familiar with meth labs, and I hope we don’t become familiar with meth labs.”
