Last year’s tribute to Lakewood’s fallen firefighters was — by all accounts — extraordinary.
The event was combined with the unveiling of the Fallen Firefighter Memorial, a tribute to the 343 killed on 9/11 and the the four Lakewood firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
This year, firefighters will be honored at the regular date for the annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.
The event is slated to take place at the memorial in front of the Lakewood Fire Station No. 1 on Madison Avenue at noon Sunday.
All on-duty fire personnel will gather with fire apparatus at the site of the Firefighter’s Memorial in front of the station for a brief ceremony with local officials attending.
Following the ceremony, there will be an open house of the fire station, including a tour of the Fire Museum in Station No. 1 from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
Lakewood’s annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial ceremony marks the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 8 to 12.
