Lakewood Police Crack Down on Alcohol Sales to Minors
Officers charge the employees of nine businesses and bars with selling alcohol to people under the legal drinking age.
The employees of nine bars, restaurants and convenience stores are set to be arraigned in today on charges of sales to minors, stemming from a Dec. 2 undercover sweep by the .
Lakewood Police Chief Timothy Malley said two underage confidential sources with the police department’s narcotic’s division went into “liquor establishments to see if they would sell any alcohol without an ID.”
Out of 46 the restaurants, bars and stores part of the investigation, nine of them did, Malley said.

“We get complaints throughout the year on particular establishments,” he added.
According to police reports, employees of the following businesses were charged with sales to minors:

In all, 10 people were arrested in the sweep, including a 46-year-old Lakewood man cited for open container after police spotted him drinking outside Merry Arts at around 8 p.m. Dec. 2.
Those weren’t the only establishments that officers visited during the investigation. The police unit made stops at 37 other bars and convenience stores, but no violations were reported.
“They’ll do several complaint checks per year,” Malley said, “to make sure everybody’s is following the (law).”
