After searching for a “body in the water” in the darkness of Lake Erie for more than an hour, Lakewood firefighters called off the search at around 10:45 p.m. Monday.
However, the search along the shoreline is expected to resume at daybreak Tuesday.
“There were reports that someone saw a (lifeless) body in the water,” said fire chief Scott Gilman, adding that the call came in after 9 p.m.
“We brought our boat in and we searched along the shoreline.”
The US Coast Guard flew a rescue helicopter in from Detroit, but it also left the area at around 10:30 p.m.
“We will go look again tomorrow,” added Gilman
