Courtroom Kerfuffle in Lakewood Makes Patch's Best of the Blotter

Lakewood: Woman Punches Officer in the Face During Courtroom Kerfuffle

A woman facing a stint in jail for misdemeanor charges is looking at a much more serious charge after allegedly attacking a courtroom officer in Lakewood Municipal Court on Monday.

The 28-year-old Lakewood woman was hauled back to court for violating the terms of her probation, after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, public intoxication and giving false information to police officers in January.

When she “aggressively” approached Judge Patrick Carroll, an officer tried to restrain her and she punched him in the face, according to officials at city hall.

“Due to continued disruptive behavior in court, (the) defendant (was) remanded pending further court order,” according to court records.

She was charged with felonious assault following the courtroom kerfuffle.

The courtroom officer — a retired Lakewood Police officer — was not seriously injured during the incident. 

During the city council meeting Monday, she could be heard in the hallways of Lakewood City Hall howling from her jail cell.

Strongsville: Woman Looks for Teens Having Babies

Police received a complaint about a woman who approached school bus drivers May 17 and asked if they knew any pregnant girls who wanted to give up their babies.

The woman drove off, but police were able to track her down.

The woman said she was concerned about teenage abortion and wanted to make sure girls at Strongsville High School had the right information.

She was told to speak with the principal or superintendent if she wanted to pass along any more information.

Avon: Man Accuses Girl Scouts of Harassing Him

A man entering Walmart in Avon called police claiming he was harassed. The incident happened on May 11 after a man signaled to Girl Scouts who had set up a booth that he wasn’t interested in buying cookies.

The man said a woman standing with the Scouts whispered in the Scout’s ears the man was “gay.”

The man the approached the woman at the booth asking for her phone numbers claiming he was going to sue her.

Avon police spoke to both the girl and the woman. Both denied saying anything of the sort.
