Armed Robbery Suspects Escape Capture

Lakewood police are investigating and have "several leads" following an early morning robbery June 28.

Two armed robbers escaped capture after they held up the manager of a Detroit Avenue business at gunpoint in the early morning of June 28. 

The woman, who manages a business in the , was walking to her car around midnight when she was confronted by two men who “forced her back into the store” and ordered her to empty the safe, said police chief Timothy Malley.

A nearby resident saw the two men — wearing black with masks on their faces — dash toward Victoria Avenue, according to the police report.

“(The) two suspects fled south, they were chased by officers on foot and got away,” said Malley, adding that officers recovered a BB gun near .

The amount of money taken in the robbery was not reported.

“The investigation is continuing and we have several leads,” he said.
