6 Years for Fourth Man Involved in Bridge Bomb Plot

Anthony Hayne, who recently lived in Lakewood, was sentenced in federal court.

A fourth man involved with the plot to blow up the state Route 82 bridge between Brecksville and Sagamore Hills has been sentenced.

The following information was provided by the United States District Court Northern District of Ohio:

  • Anthony Hayne, who recently lived in Lakewood, has been sentenced to 72 months—or six years—in prison.

A representative of the court said Hayne would be under lifetime-supervised release after serving his sentence. The sentences for his three charges, including attempted use of an explosive, will be served concurrently. His special assessment cost was $300.

Hayne’s jail time is less than the other three men involved in the plot who have been sentenced so far, but the other terms of his sentencing are the same. The fifth man involved is still being evaluated, according to The Plain Dealer. The Associated Press reports that all three men are appealing their sentences. NewsNet5.com has the story

Hayne was the first of the five to plead guilty; he did so in July and agreed to testify against the others if necessary. His sentencing, originally scheduled for before Thanksgiving, was postponed until Nov. 30.

The Plain Dealer reports that Hayne’s lawyer had wanted to withdraw the guilty plea if Hayne did not receive a lighter sentence than the other three. Check out the full story for more on what Hayne had to say today and for why the judge considered stepping down from the case.
