St. Edward Slips Past Rangers For Lakewood Community Cup Victory

The Eagles took the Cup back because last year's contest ended in gridlock with a 0-0 tie. The Rangers had won the rivalry in 2010, 2-1.

In a heated rivalry, escaped Lakewood Stadium with a 1-0 win over to take the Community Cup in their only scheduled soccer match-up of the season on Thursday night.

There were several penalties called in Thursday's match. The entire first half was tied, 0-0. The deadlock was finally broken about 15 minutes into the second half when a St. Edward striker scored the game winner.

St. Edward High School Boys Soccer will be hosting St. Ignatius High School on Wednesday September 19, 2012 at 8 PM at Coughlin Field located behind St. Edward High School. Both teams enter the match undefeated and many fans remember the exciting and classic double overtime OHSAA District Final contest between the two schools last year. We encourage you to arrive early since a large crowd is expected to be in attendance.
