Lakewood's Wild Nightlife

Lakewood has seen a great increase in it's nocturnal wild life.  Skunks, raccoons, possums, etc are omnipresent at night.  A few nights ago, a skunk came up to our sliding glass door just steps away from being nose to nose with our cat.  Lucky it withdrew without spraying when we turned the outside lights on.  Then last night as I was sitting near the same door, a possum came by.
Our neighbor's dog was sprayed by a skunk last year and in full retreat, ran into their house creating "quite a stink" throughout.
Our garbage cans have been raided by raccoons and on pre-dawn bike rides, I have seen deer and foxes.
So Lakewood's Night Life" is certainly wild.
What can we do about it?  Is it time for city council to take action?  The skunk situation is a particular nuisance with the odor drifting into houses when windows are open late at night.
Any interview The Patch might do with city officials concerning this would certainly be interesting.
An interview with a wild life expert, explaining how to react when we see these critters would also be helpful.

Cheers!
