Memorial Service for Bruce Beebe, Popular Lakewood High Teacher, Set for Sunday

Beebe taught history and social studies in Lakewood and was on the part time faculty at John Carroll University.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bruce T. Beebe, a popular teacher, will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Blvd., Rocky River.

The 68-year-old Lakewood resident, who , taught history and social studies at Lakewood High for 30 years before retiring in 2001.

The online guest book that accompanies his obituary on the McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home website is filled with comments from former students, describing him as an inspirational, enthusiastic and creative teacher, who made history fun and each student feel special.

Beebe — whose wife, Linda, serves on the  — was born July 14, 1942, in Cleveland. He was educated in the Cleveland schools and attended Kent State and Case Western Reserve universities.  

He earned a doctorate in medieval history and the Crusades from St. Andrews University in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Beebe also was a part time faculty member at John Carroll University and at one time taught at St. Francis College.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Garrett Beebe, and children, Aaron (wife, Deborah Matzner) and Megan (partner, Kathleen Michelfelder).
