Anne Eiben, of Lakewood, Dies at 91

Calling hours are set to take place at the McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. March 1.

Anne Eiben, of Lakewood, died Feb. 23, holding the hand of her husband of 31 years.

She was 91.

Eiben is survived by husband Dr. Robert M. Eiben. Adored mother of Peter (Maria), Marianne (John) Karaffa, Ruth Khalsa , Janne (Marshall) Bissett, Martha (Patrick) O'Leary, George (Mary), Jack, Susan (Kevin ) Kelley, Marc (Zina), Thomas, Joseph (Sheila) and Constance (Larry) Rieb. Beloved stepmother of Daniel, Christopher (Jayne), Thomas (Jan), Mary (George) Balbo, Charles (Leslie) and Lisa. Cherished grandmother of 23 and great-grandmother of 8. Dearest sister of Clare Zahorchak, Dolores Henry, sister-in-law Rita Broestl; her caring nieces and nephews; and life-long friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Tilly; sisters Elizabeth, LaVerne and Eleanor; brother Edward; granddaughter Kathrine and former husband Thomas Balbo.

Eiben was born in Cleveland on April 26, 1921.

A 1940 graduate of West Tech High School, she was in the banking industry for more than 25 years — most memorably as a teller at the Lakewood branch of National City Bank.

She was a volunteer for many years at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Euclid Hospital and Western Reserve Hospice.

Calling hours are set to take place at the McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. March 1. The funeral is set at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (Superior & E. 9th St.) at 10 a.m. March 2nd.
