Children can get paid for singing!

Lakewood Church is embarking on an ambitious project to form a PAID Children’s Choir. Auditions begin on September 9th at St. Peter’s Episcopal church 18001 Detroit Road, the corner of Detroit Avenue and West Clifton Road, in Lakewood.  Orientation for parents and children is on Saturday, October 6, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Children in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade are invited to audition for a new singing opportunity in Lakewood and the West side at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. There are no other programs like this in the area. The surprising aspect of this paid youth choir is that St. Peter’s is reaching out to the entire community.  Children of all creeds, or none, are welcome!  Most importantly, the children participating  DO NOT need to be or become members of St. Peter's, neither do parents.  Parents need not attend services.  Gaining new members is NOT the point.  Music is the point. The congregation sees this as a new and critical outreach program, in part, because music, especially singing, is being crowded out of the community with tight school budgets and busy family schedules.  The participants will be required to make a commitment to attend rehearsals and Sunday Services. St. Peter's wants to help kids learn responsibility, discipline, and, professionalism. They will be paid. Director of Music & Organist, Michael Miller will direct the choir.  He has many years of experience teaching music to all ages, and is passionate about making choir both educational AND fun.
