Modern Day Mayberry Part 2

A continuation of a Lakewood small business tour with places and people you ought to see.

MODERN DAY MAYBERRY Part 2

I continued to explore the west end
of Madison and make more discoveries this past winter. Yes, I am very familiar
with this road as I travel it every day, even more than I do Detroit. I
see the empty storefronts and dream about what little shop I could open up but
I don't have the courage. Not with this internet shopping world. And I
haven't thought of a service I could provide. That would be the safe bet. Maybe
something will come to me in my dreams. And I do believe these business owners
are definitely following their dreams. I envy them. Anyway, I must admit that
there were places I had never really noticed, or maybe I did because I drive by
them all the time, but wasn't sure exactly what they were. One such place was
Hanson Services, Inc. You know, that building with the big red apple on the
sign. Well, it's an in-home assisted living provider. It's noteworthy just for
that reason but there's more. You have to go in and take a tour. Ask about the
history of the building itself. It has one. It is beautiful and the interior
decorating is wonderful. I was awestruck just looking around at the
architecture, furnishings and artwork. I love that type of thing and there are
so many notable buildings in Lakewood. Anyone who lives here should make it a
point to do their own little tour. I suppose I should do it myself and write
about that at some point. But, I digress. Another service provider for the
elderly is Lakewood Department of Human Services Division of Aging. When I
popped in, they were serving lunch. I was amazed at all of the services and
activities they offer besides just meals. Really, if you know an
elderly person, check this place out. They are there to help and you should
take advantage of it. Visiting with the elderly, talking with them and other in-home
services are fantastic. But, if you have the opportunity, go out
and spend some time with others at this division. What a wonderful service
right here in our little city. Thank goodness for people who have this calling
and the talent to help our aging population. Kudos!

Continuing on my tour I notice that insurance
companies like State Farm and Tighes' have their own storefronts. I've only
contacted mine by phone. I couldn't tell you where their office is. Close by is
a financial advising firm but they didn't want to be mentioned because they
have more business than they can handle. Really? That's a first. Must be nice.
And we have our "specialty" stores like Cheap Tobacco and Twilight
Boutique. I happen to like these places for their unique inventories and the
way they smell. Yup, I just like the way it smells. No, I didn't buy
anything. After you hit one of these shops, do a little Yoga at Acenda
Yoga or relax even more with a massage at Lakewood Massotherapy. Who knew you could find heaven right in Lakewood?

I knew actually. In my opinion, Lakewood is a little slice of heaven. As a Realtor, I am always looking at options for people and get caught up myself. Just the other day, I was considering, just for a heartbeat, maybe a move back to the country. I was searching horse properties. They were available pretty close by and they are affordable. But, I really love it here. Now, if I could find five acres right in
Lakewood......Anyway, I think I'll stay put. Besides, I still haven't visited
all the shops here and I really want to do that. But, it’s boating season so my
little tour will have to wait until the weather gets cold again. For the next
few months, the Lake will get my undivided attention. Love summertime in Cleveland! Hope you do too.
