French Student Reflects on time spent with Hosting Family in America

There are 25 french students coming to the Cleveland area for 20 days this summer. We are looking for families all over the greater Cleveland area. Worldexchange.org

Going to another country is always exciting but you still have fears concerning it. When I was 16, I came for the first in the USA. Not only it was my first experience in another continent but it was also my first travel without my parents.

Most of the people would think that as a foreigner, I should have gone to New York or Los Angeles but I didn't wanted to see what we could see on Tv Shows, I wanted to live the way American people do.

With my parents, we decided that I should spend my stay at an host family's. Through an organization, I found a family that would host me and at the beginning of august I arrived at Avon Lake, Ohio.

The Quinn's hosted me for a month and it was one of my most exciting experience. We shared experience, had a lot of fun and everyday I was discovering something that I had no idea of. At the same time I was getting invest to the community, helping handicapped kids during the morning and going to the soccer field to help Coach Kiko during high school training. I enjoyed the sweet summer of mid west sharing diners or party with the Quinn's, their family and friends.

At the end of august, I left America with an all new perspective, a different personality. I was able to talk in English almost fluently and had met lots of new friend. Even more, I was part of a family.

My experience was really amazing and as the Quinn's told me that I was welcome, I decided to come back the next summer.

Now I'm 21 and I study Management in a French Business School. I had the opportunity to be an exchange student this year and so I decided to come back to the USA and to study at North Carolina State University. 4 years after my last stay, I've met the Quinn's once more, but this time it was at my place in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Best regards,
