WHO KNEW?

BRAND NEW CONCEPT BEING ESTABLISHED IN LAKEWOOD:  Ascension Episcopal Church, 13216 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, 216-521-8727, has a new “Intentional  Coed Community” of like-minded, spirit-filled folks who have been residing in the former Rectory of the church.  I met with Mary Williams of the  Jesuit Volunteer Corps of Ohio City, who is one of the founding members of this very new group.  She arrived in Cleveland in early August.  The group accepted the invitation of Pastor Vincent Black and are in the process of selecting a name, Ascension House being one of the choices.  Mary, of St. Louis,  is a graduate of Loyola University with a degree in Anthropology who is contemplating further study in law to equip herself to be of assistance to the folks of Ohio City.  Alex Barton, another member of this community, has been laboring to reopen St. John’s in Ohio City.  It was the last stop of the underground railroad before movement into Canada.

Vincent Black, the new Ascension Pastor, offered the rectory for the purpose of forming this special community to serve as a presence in Lakewood.  There are six members from varied backgrounds who will promote the church as a welcoming home, a learning place and a spiritual haven open to all people.  They are  considering a Community Garden on the spacious and beautifully manicured grounds.  Lakewood is invited to join them for a big welcoming celebration on September 29.  This was a stunning interview with a beautiful, caring, inspiring young lady. Now, you know.
