If you have nothing nice to say........you know the rest!

Ever want to know something personal about you hairstylist? Read on and you just might find something out.

Many people don't realize how hard of a talent it is dealing with the public.  I know what I'm about to discuss happens very little, but it does happen and when it does, it hurts. So many people don't know the extent of schooling it takes to become a cosmetologist.  Some have even thought it took no school at all.  In fact it takes 1500 hours of schooling to be qualified to take the state board test and if you pass then you can get your license.  We also have to complete continuing education hours every two years before we can renew our license. We made the decision to go to school to do hair.  A person has to have a need to love working with the public and helping people feel better about themselves.  Do you know how many professions are licensed to actually touch people?  Not many, so that make our job that much more special.  We get to make someone having a bad day change their mood.  We get to give that guy a clean cut style to go to an interview for a new job.  We make that high scholar look like a princess for her prom........The best is when we get to fix the mistake that mom made trying to cut her son's hair because this isn't a real job and anyone can do it.Now my story begins.  It was a typical day in the life of a salon business when in walked a woman with her teenage daughter who asked, very properly, for a haircut.  She was taken to the chair of a long experienced stylist. Conversation was made between the three of them just as normally as it usually goes when the daughter made a bold statement to the stylist. "I think I want to go to school to do hair after i graduate next year."I thought the mother was going to explode. It looked as if she had never been more embarrassed in her life."Look, we have talked about this before, you are going to school to get a real job."That was the mother's response.Ok, wait, WHAT did you say?  A real job?  What do you think we do?  Come hear to fake cut your hair? The best part was the response the woman got in return to her statement.  "Excuse me, but I have worked this job for many years.  I have payed bills, bought food and necessities, and raised kids as a single mom from this job.  I did have to go to school for this job and earn my license.  I had to come to this job everyday in order to make my ends meet just as you do yours.  So to educated you on something you have no respect for, THIS IS A REAL JOB.""Humpf."  That was all this lady had to say after that.I was once asked if I had the chance to do it over, would I go to a four year college instead of cosmetology school.  No, I answered.  I love my job.  I  would rather make enough money to pay my bills (most of the time) and sometimes have a little left over and be happy than have a lot of money left over but be miserable.  I feel a REAL job is one that you never think of calling off from just because you don't want to go in.  I want to go to work everyday and if I call off, best believe it's for a good reason. It's a wonderful feeling to love your job!!
