LEAF Presents Seed Saving with the Cleveland Seed Bank

You are invited to join the Lakewood Earth and Food (LEAF) Community as we partner with the Cleveland Seed Bank for an informational discussion on seed saving on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. in the side room of Deagan's Kitchen and Bar (14810 Detroit Avenue).

Marilyn McHugh and Chris Kennedy, co-founders of the Cleveland Seed Bank, will discuss the basics of seed saving, why it is important, a few techniques for saving seeds, and how the Cleveland Seed Bank works. The Cleveland Seed Bank is an alliance of local seed savers dedicated to seed-saving education and the preservation of our shared cultural heritage of seeds. The Cleveland Seed Bank grew out of Marily and Chris' work in India and East Africa with The Hummingbird Project, with which they have trained and assisted over 2,000 farmers in the cultivation of living soil, and in the transition from chemical to organic farming. Marilyn and Chris, a biologist and teacher by training respectively, have studied permaculture, the soil food web, participatory plant breeding, seed saving and organic farming techniques with the leaders in each field.
