Dunstan Haettenschwiller, Former Teacher, Dies at 84

The calling hours are set to take place at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, with the funeral service to follow at St. Luke Church at 10 a.m.

 

Dunstan Haettenschwiller, referred to by friends as “Dr. Hat,” died Dec. 27.

He was 84.

The beloved husband of Patricia and the late A. Evelyn (nee Davis), Dear father of David L. (Nieves), Stephen H. (Suzan), Thomas M. (Philomene), Patricia G. Eastin (Terry), Paul J. (Mary Ellen "Mer"), Mark A. and the late Vivian M.; grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of four; Brother of Alphonse Alexander Haettenschwiller. 

Born in New Jersey and raised in Switzerland and England, Haettenschwiller was a US Army veteran in Europe and Korea; graduate of Plattsburgh State Teachers College and later earned a doctorate at SUNY at Buffalo.

He worked in education as a teacher and counselor and later was a civilian career counselor for the US Army. He also was avid racquetball player.

The calling hours are set to take place at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, with the funeral service to follow at St. Luke Church at 10 a.m.

He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
