The Joys of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
A couple of weeks ago, the Lakewood Historical Society sponsored a Chautauqua event at Lakewood Park. One of the “speakers” was John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. For those who may not know, Johnny Appleseed was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and parts of what is now northern West Virginia during his lifetime in the late 1700’s until his death in 1845. During his talk he briefly mentioned using apple cider vinegar as a medicine in his day. In today’s world of high tech scientific research, there is a tendency to look down upon the old folk remedies of the past. But it turns out that our ancestors may have known something about apple cider vinegar that we should pay attention to.
