Madison Avenue Equals Art

Want to buy local? Love to support local artists? Madison Avenue is the place!

As owner of , I am very excited to announce my newest neighbor, Breakneck Gallery!

They occupy the former Pop-Shop Space at 17020 Madison in Lakewood.

This Saturday was their sneak peak and it was AWESOME. I bought two pieces, a Pop Art Style Doberman and a Blue Jay print, both of which are gracing my walls right now. The cool factor of my kitchen just went up, way up.

Their Grand Opening isn't until October, but that shouldn't stop you from visiting right now.  They are open Wednesdays through Friday(4-7 pm), Saturdays (2-9 pm) and also by appointment.

The gallery is split into two rooms, one side was featuring a special exhibit titled "Who the Hell is Josh Usmani?"

Usmani is a local artist whose art is created using acrylic paint, ballpoint pen, colored pencil and ink.

How did he become an artist?

Here's his answer, "I quit my job 4 years ago, ruined my credit and disappointed countless family members. I realized I was an artist. Don’t worry, it’s not contagious.”  Life is all about taking risks, his definitely paid off:  his art is truly amazing.

The other side of the shoppe featured local art, books and music from at least twenty different artists, including the owners, Sean and Kristen Burns.

Be sure to check out one of my favorite local artists, Lisa of Sleepy Robot 13 who is also showing in the gallery.  She makes the cutest robots out of polymer clay in a plethora of styles, everything from animals to zombies.

Another opportunity to visit Breakneck will be on Saturday, September 17 at the Madison Avenue Art Walk. Carol Lynne Salon(15410 Madison), Crafty Goodness(15621 Madison), Rockflower Studio(15707 Madison), Goddess Blessed(15729 Madison)and Breakneck Gallery(17020 Madison)will be exhibiting local art from over 100 different local artisans.  More information can be found on MAMA, the Madison Avenue Merchant Association Facebook page.
