McDonald's Open Letter: Some Comments on the Comments

New resident responds to some of the points made in an open letter to McDonald's.

I really appreciate everyone's comments on my . I'm glad I can stimulate some conversation on this topic...

I'd just like to clear some things up:

First off, I never said there was only one McDonald's. I know there are two. What I said was I couldn't believe we even had one, at all, in the first place. I may have been an English major, but I do know how to count to two. (Although I did not realize one would simply be moving, so I appreciate the info...however as the addressed, this McDonald's may be the source of some traffic issues for those living on the side streets. I mean, have you ever tried turning left on Detroit from a side street? It's not always an easy task!)

Secondly, I am new to Lakewood. I've only lived here a short time; however, I did support the Detroit Theatre. I also supported the Parma Theatre, which has also sadly been closed. Even now, I only support the local theaters such as Cedar Lee in Cleveland Heights and Capitol Theatre in Gordon Square. I don't see a ton of movies in the first place, so I'm sure my twice a year visit wasn't enough to keep them open, but I wasn't going to some big theater in Crocker Park instead of a place local.

Thirdly, my name is Cari with and I (C-A-R-I), not Carl! I'm a woman, not a man. It happens a lot...I know the “i” sometimes looks like an “l” to people. Imagine sitting in class and the teacher reading the roster asking where Carl is and having to correct them...that was my life for a number of years.

Finally, I'm a supporter of local businesses. (Clearly, as the majority of my blog is about local businesses and why they rule) I'd rather see that historical site go to something local, not something corporate, which will only take away from the unique town that is Lakewood. (which face it, it probably will) I hope that it doesn't look like every other McDonald's in the world. If it does, it'll just look kind of weird right there. I think it would be awesome if they literally made the McDonald's look like an old theatre. (You know, similar to how The Pub in Rocky River still does.)

As a side note, I am well aware of the dangers of alcohol and I do consume them in cautious moderation. And while McDonald's is cheaper than a locally made burger, I'd rather eat at home (which is cheaper and probably healthier than any other option) and splurge on the occasional burger where they aren't mass produced.

But that's just me.

Honestly, I really do appreciate any comments. I hope many of you will continue to tell me what you think in the future (good or bad) and most importantly, I hope you will all check out some of the local places I can't stop talking about.

With that said, I'm off to the , a place suggested to me via a comment on my first blog post. (Thanks to Lakewood Patch reader for the tip!) Time for Taco Thursday!
