World of Beer Ready to Open on Detroit Avenue

With 50 beers on draft and another 500 varieties in bottles, the new, 3,800-square-foot bar slated for a "Facebook opening" on March 19.

The plywood has come down from the windows. The tables installed and polished. The huge cooler is set to the appropriate temperature.

All that’s left for World of Beer is, well, beer.

Hundreds of brands of beer should arrive in the next couple weeks, as the new, 3,800-square-foot bar is slated to open in the INA Building on March 19.

Mark Pottschmidt, a partner in the enterprise, said that the bar will feature 500 different bottles of beer, and 50 drafts that rotate every night.

But this bar chain will only serve fancy beers.

“Our focus is definitely on the beer,” he said, adding that the approximately 40 employees will undergo a rigorous two-week “beer school.”

“Beer school definitely sets us apart,” said Darren Greene, a co-owner of World of Beer. “The educational component is definitely something that’s very important to us.”

Liquor won’t be served at World of Beer, but a few wines will be offered.

Instead of serving food, World of Beer will partner with area restaurants that will deliver the food to the table. Eddie ‘N Eddie's, located in the space next door, will even staff a server inside World of Beer.

“We were looking at the Cleveland market, and we fell in love with Lakewood,” said Pottschmidt.  “We went to Melt, Deagan’s and Eddie ‘N Eddie and saw that they all had craft beer… Lakewood is already ahead of the craft beer movement.”
