Rain Doesn't Keep Lakewood Organizations from Promoting Living in Lakewood

Two events, Lakewood Downtown Open House and the Lakewood Old House Fair, both successful — despite the weather.

Rain and thunderstorms didn’t keep hundreds of people from attending a couple of home-friendly events in Lakewood on Saturday.

The second annual was hosted by the city’s real estate brokerage community, LakewoodAlive and a number of community institutions.

More than 45 homes for sale were on display, and most homes had between four to eight groups visiting each one, said event co-organizer Eric Lowery.

Homes opened for the tour ranged in architectural style, as well as price range.

Participating properties are posted on the event website www.lakewoodopen.com.

“Most of these homes are very affordable,” Lowery said. “This is a great city for first-time home-buyers.”

Across town, at another homes-oriented event, the rain outside didn’t matter.

The Lakewood Old House Fair took place Saturday in the gym of Harding Middle School, where more than 50 vendors set up shop to offer services catered specifically to older homes.

Event organizer Mel Page said that 800 people attended the third annual event, but she declined further comment.

There were raffles, door prizes and food — along with some nifty local vendors who offered their collective experience working with older homes.
