Quaker Steak and Lube officials said the restaurant, based in Sharon, PA, would be open “seven days a week, 365 days a year.”

Dave Miller, the vice president of facilities and operation for the company, said the Lakewood restaurant would likely open by July.

He said the Lakewood restaurant is a “concept” store, meaning that it’s smaller and in more of an urban setting than the others across the country.

“We have 44 operations across the country,” said Miller. “Not one of them is like Lakewood.”

One of the concerns brought up was the proximity of nearby homes.

“It seems so removed from any residential area, I don’t really see that it’s a problem,” said Mark Stockman, the chairman of the planning commission. “Mars (Avenue) would probably be the closest.”

Like it does with others with conditional use permits, the planning commission will review the restaurant every 90 days.

“If we found out that were issues, we would ask the applicant to return,” said Dru Siley, the city’s planning and development director. “I know Quaker Steak is going to make every effort to be a good neighbor.”

Last summer, Quaker Steak and Lube signed its lease to open in the renovated Drug Mart Plaza. However, after and , Radio Shack is the only other remaining tenant.

The city’s architectural board of review in January.
